You watches those Witches burn

Girls Like Us came to me through a recommendation from a friend, who knows my love for girl-led bands very well. Doing some research, I found out that it is a trio based in London, made up of Amelia – vox & bass, Jaz – guitar and Yusuf – drums and “’Bitter ’til the Bitter End” is their debut EP.

I wanted to add an atmosphere of nostalgia to the first time I heard them, so I took out my Walkman, put the headphones on it, and dedicated myself to savoring it. The result is an EP that feels like a trip back in time, with one foot in the heyday of punk and the other in the golden age of grunge from the late 80s and early 90s, a time I lived through and enjoyed in my teens.

Song of the Wytches” is the powerful song that starts this journey, highly influenced in the classic punk style with a duration of only 1:18 loaded of strength… here I thought, mmmm this looks good, I like it. Song by song my interest was growing, and I felt very happy that a new band came into my hands, with material released this year and with this Punk-Grunge sound that really blew my mind.

If at some point I have the opportunity to talk with its members, I would love to ask them what their influences are; because a series of bands came to my mind that I admire a lot and are part of my collection, who have fought to maintain that feminine legacy in this genre; like when I heard the song “Toothache” the band L7 came to my mind with one of my favorite songs, “Pretend We’re Dead“.

I really recommend paying attention to this band, because their proposal is very good and you must be prepared to listen to heavy riffs, powerful bass, and songs full of strength, anger, and attitude.
