If you haven’t heard of Hatsnriver yet, it’s time to catch up. These punks out of Vienna, Austria, are bringing some serious heat with their latest album “Good for Nothing”. But here’s the kicker—they didn’t always start out this loud.
Originally a solo acoustic project, Hatsnriver evolved into a full-blown punk rock band, blending that raw acoustic soul with gritty, high-energy sounds. Think about it: the vulnerability of an acoustic act mixed with the punch-you-in-the-face attitude of punk rock. That’s what Hatsnriver is all about now.

Their new album comes packed with 12 tracks, that dive into heavy topics like life, death, social injustice, and somehow still manage to find a positive outcome. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Gerald Hartwagner at Soundschmiede, and mastered by Dennis Koehne, this album sounds killer. And let me tell you about the vinyl—I’m holding a beautiful transparent green vinyl with black splatters, personally signed by the band members. It’s one of those little things that makes this album even more special.
You get everything from catchy punk rock rhythms to a sprinkle of folk, smooth vocals mixed with more aggressive ones, and a blend of distorted and acoustic guitars that’ll hook you instantly. The mix of sounds makes this record stand out. Usually, I’d compare a band’s sound to others, but with Hatsnriver, it’s tough to pin down. The closest I can get is Get Dead, but I owe you another comparison. That just shows how fresh and original they are.
One small but important thing (for me) that’s missing, though—printed lyrics. I would’ve loved to see the words on paper while spinning the vinyl. But even without that, this record is packed with heart and grit.
If you’re into music that’s authentic, unpolished, and packs a real punch, Good for Nothing needs to be on your playlist. Hatsnriver is doing something unique, and it’s clear they’re just getting started.
