Meet Slug Boys, the Scandi-Brit post-punk crew that’s been shaking up Oslo’s underground scene since the middle of the lockdown. For fans of sounds like The Mansters and Viagra Boys, this band is a breath of fresh (yet grimy) air. Born out of isolation, these guys made up for lost time by bringing the noise and getting real physical in the post-lockdown live scene. After dropping their debut EP “Post Perfect” in 2022, they’re back with a new single called Glasnost, and trust me, it’s got teeth.

This track’s got layers, man. Inspired by Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and Russian punk band Pornofilmy, Glasnost dives deep into the whole idea of unfulfilled promises—particularly the broken dream of transparency in Russia. It toys with that promise, twists it, and spits it back out, all while setting it against an unexpected nod to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake(!). Yeah, you heard that right—a post-punk track with a classical backbone.
Slug Boys don’t just stop there, though. The song is more than just a critique; it’s a celebration of the Russian people who are risking their lives to stand up against their government. There’s a heavy emotional punch as the track builds, like a growing wave of defiance, pushing back against the weight of oppression. It’s heavy, but there’s a real raw beauty in it too, like watching someone rise up when you least expect it.
If this is a taste of what’s to come from their next album, buckle up. Slug Boys are taking no prisoners with their sound and their message. Glasnost is here to rattle cages and turn heads, and if you’re into bands that make you feel the grit and fire in every chord, this one’s for you.
