Inside Out

The Deflators, a New Jersey melodic punk band with strong vibes from 70s power pop, 80s new wave, and a hint of 90s attitude, have just dropped their EP Inside Out, and it’s packed with 4 punchy tracks. Mixed by Alex Markides and mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room (you know, the Descendents‘ legendary studio), this release has a polished yet gritty sound that hits you right where it matters.

The lyrics? They’re packed with emotion, self-reflection, and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor. In “Inside Out,” there’s a feeling of vulnerability, like peeling back layers and exposing all the insecurities we try to hide. Lines like “No one knows me like you know me, you can turn me inside out” capture that deep connection you can only have with someone who truly sees you, flaws and all. The track speaks to the struggle of facing your truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Another standout moment comes with the lyric, “I have a knack for doing something stupid at exactly the perfect time,” which perfectly sums up those moments where everything falls apart just when you need it to go right. You can hear the desperation in the lines “Please don’t leave me, I’m begging please,” giving the song a heart-wrenching edge.

And then, there’s a lighthearted punk rock spin with lyrics like “Mom and Dad gave me a mohawk when I was just ten,” balancing out the heavier moments with a bit of humor and rebellion. The contrast between dealing with anxiety, sharing on TikTok, and having parents who are somehow cooler than you adds a modern, relatable twist to the classic punk sound.

This EP is more than just a nostalgic throwback—it’s a reminder that the chaotic, messy emotions of youth never really fade away. If you’re into punk rock with thoughtful lyrics and a dash of humor, Inside Out is a must-listen.
