Mental Instability

Okay, so if you’re even remotely into fast, pissed-off, no-BS hardcore punk rock with a touch of that raw 90s chaos… stop what you’re doing and check out Hattefök. These guys are a fresh band straight out of Norway, and they just dropped their debut EP “Mental Instability” — and honestly? It rips.

It’s only 4 tracks, but they come out swinging with zero intention of slowing down. From the first guitar riff, you can tell they’re not here to play nice — there’s that classic hardcore build-up, then boom: the bass and drums just fly in, fast and dirty, like it’s 1995 all over again. You can really hear that throwback energy in the production and pacing, but it still feels fresh and full of character.

Lyrically, they touch on tough times, mental chaos, all that dark stuff… but with a twist of humor that actually works. It’s not overly heavy-handed — it’s real, a bit sarcastic, and super relatable if you’ve ever had one of those days (or years, let’s be honest).

The standout track? No doubt: “Knives and Bats.” It’s an absolute blast — fast, gritty, with killer tempo shifts that keep you guessing. Definitely one of those songs that make you wanna throw a chair (in the best way possible).

Also, shout out to the album art — clean, aggressive, and totally in sync with the music. Physical copies on CD too, which is a nice touch for us old-school heads.

If you’re hunting for underground bands doing it right — raw, loud, and unapologetically punk — Hattefök needs to be on your radar. Give them a spin on Spotify and hit them up on Instagram. This is the kind of energy the scene needs more of.
