There’s something instantly exciting about 8 From 4, the upcoming four-way split from Ten Cent Tiger (AUS), Oort Patrol (USA), Father Fury (USA), and Record Highs (USA). Out October 10 via Boared to Death Records and Wreckoning Cru Records, it feels less like a compilation — four bands, two tracks each, throwing everything they’ve got into a communal punch-up of melody, grit, and catharsis.
Ten Cent Tiger, the Perth/Boorloo crew who’ve been steadily sharpening their claws since 2022, are an undeniable standout. It’s fierce DIY spirit with heart and hooks to match.
Their first track, “Misshapen Platelets,” is as visceral as its title. It’s a bruised, angry anthem about feeling betrayed by your own body, dragging yourself through cycles of failure and burnout while still trying not to let the people you love down. The lyrics are heavy (“We’re more than the sum of our broken parts / Who knew getting our shit together would be this hard?”), but the delivery is alive with jagged melody and urgency. It’s punk therapy, raw and unfiltered.
Then comes “Our Greatest Escape,” a full‑throttle burst of defiance. Where “Misshapen Platelets” wrestles with collapse, this one kicks down the door and bolts for freedom. It’s about letting go of what’s holding you back, burning bright in the moment, and finding connection even in chaos. The hook (“With rattled cage, we’ll break these chains / Here’s one for the ages, our greatest escape”) is practically built for a sweaty singalong.
Together, these tracks show Ten Cent Tiger at their sharpest yet: melodic but biting, cathartic but fun, hopeless and hopeful all at once. If 8 From 4 is meant to showcase punk’s collaborative spirit, these two songs prove Ten Cent Tiger are not just showing up to the party — they’re kicking it off.
