Beta Voids is a punk rock band from Astoria, Oregon; they come out swinging on Scrape It Off, a seven-track EP that taps straight into the raw pulse of early L.A. punk. You can hear shades of bands like Redd Kross and Black Flag in the way everything feels fast, loose, and a little unhinged. At the same time, there’s this no-wave streak running through the whole thing—kind of that jagged, nervy energy you’d get from James Chance and the Contortions.

What really makes the EP stand out, though, is the saxophone. It feels like it shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. It cuts across the guitars in this chaotic way that pulls everything slightly out of balance—in a good way. Instead of smoothing out the edges, the sax leans into the mess and makes the songs feel even more direct and confrontational.
The whole project was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mike Vasquez at Sweatbox Northwest in Astoria, Oregon (June 2025), and it shows—this is a gritty, room-sounds-included kind of record, not polished but purposely rough around the corners.
Scrape It Off is short, sharp, and honest about what it is: a punchy blast of punk and no-wave attitude that doesn’t hang around longer than it needs to.
