Angel from the Slums

Just when you thought pop punk had already said everything it needed to say this year, The Neighbors come crashing through with a crooked little holiday gift. Fresh off their new album released on November 21, the Hungarian pop-punk crew are already back with a two-track Christmas EP titled “Szennyből az angyal” — or _“Angel from the Slums.” And yeah, it’s exactly as messy and fun as it sounds.

This isn’t the kind of Christmas record that smells like cinnamon and candles. It smells like cheap beer, burnt food, and family drama that starts way too early in the morning. The boys stick to what they do best: fast tempos, punchy guitars, and that unmistakable Californian pop-punk vibe, even though they’re coming straight out of Hungary.

What really sells this EP is the humor. The Neighbors lean hard into the chaos of the holidays, showing their playful side without turning it into a joke record. One of the tracks fires off lines like “Shut up and eat up!”, perfectly capturing that familiar Christmas pressure where everyone pretends to get along while silently losing their minds. Instead of sugarcoating the season, they throw it back at you loud and fast, like a three-minute adrenaline shot.

Lyrically, it’s all about crowded kitchens, annoying relatives, and the beautiful madness of end-of-year gatherings.

The EP only has two tracks, but it doesn’t feel disposable. It feels like a quick, honest release meant to be blasted once you’re done pretending to enjoy small talk at the table. Both songs are available on all streaming platforms, and there is a video as well.

So yeah, if you’re tired of the same polished Christmas playlists, give Angel from the Slums a spin. You can listen to it between unwrapping two Christmas candies — or while mentally preparing for the next family round. Either way, The Neighbors have your back.
