After the Riot

If you’ve caught Rat Grenade ripping through Toronto venues since they formed in 2024, you already know they don’t mess around. Having shared stages with heavy hitters like Diesel Boy, Save Ferris, and Punk Rock Factory, the trio are building a solid reputation for fast, high-energy live shows. Now, they’re finally bringing that sweat-soaked energy to your speakers with their 11-track debut LP, After the Riot.

Sound-wise, the record hits a sweet spot. It’s rooted in classic 90s ska punk, but it cuts the polished edges with gritty garage punk attitude and a subtle splash of folk storytelling.

What really anchors the record, though, is the contrast between the bounce and the lyrics. Tracks like “Better Days” dive headfirst into nostalgia and regret, while “Parasite” vents the absolute exhaustion of feeling drained from the inside out. Then you hit “Die Young,” a blunt, sarcastic reality check wrapped in a chorus that’ll be stuck in your head for days. It’s angsty, relatable, and unapologetically honest.

Rat Grenade is celebrating the release on Friday, August 28 at The Junction Underground in Toronto.
