There’s nothing polished or overthought about How 2 Human, the latest release from Kitchener, Ontario’s eccentric garage punk trio LYFE SK!LLZ. Released on May, 2026 through Cartridge Heart, this eight-song blast feels like it was made by people who care more about honesty than perfection—and that’s exactly why it works.
We received the album on CD (from CANADA to COSTA RICA baby … thanx JON), complete with a sturdy hard case and unmistakably DIY artwork by Michael Elvidge (handled with the same hands-on attitude that defines the music itself).
Recorded and mixed by Bill Morton and mastered by Matt Gauthier, the record sounds raw without being messy. The guitars are soaked in distortion, the songs move fast. Beneath the noisy surface, the bass occasionally steps forward with well-crafted riffs that add extra weight without stealing the spotlight.
Lyrically, How 2 Human is driven by personal reflection rather than empty slogans. “Punk Rock Saved” is a straightforward love letter to the music that changed the band’s life, celebrating punk rock as more than a genre—it’s a lifeline. “Let It Die” wrestles with frustration, isolation, and the desire to leave painful moments behind, while “Feel Alive” searches for genuine human connection and reminds us that our past shapes who we become, even when we’re trying to move forward.
The album bounces between loud, scrappy garage punk and infectious hooks without losing its identity.
