Boston’s The Grimly Pleased return with a new EP; “Do Nice Things”, their fifth release; they simply don’t know how to put out a mediocre record. Released in April 2026, this four-track EP keeps everything that makes the band so enjoyable: catchy songwriting, an effortless blend of country, garage rock, folk, and punk influences, and melodies that refuse to leave your head.
We received the EP on vinyl, and just like their previous releases, the presentation is top-notch. The cover artwork by Daniel Benayun maintains the high standard of the band’s visual identity, while the production—Recorded, produced and engineered at The Record Company by Mike Quinn.
Musically, these guys doesn’t reinvent the wheel, and that’s exactly its strength.Every track feels natural, upbeat, and built to be played loud with friends.
Lyrically, the EP embraces optimism without sounding cheesy. “Yayus” is a celebration of life’s simple pleasures, reminding us that happiness can be found in everyday moments, good company, and small victories. “We Do Nice Things” takes an equally refreshing approach, promoting kindness, positivity, and rejecting hate with the kind of straightforward honesty that punk has always done best. The dedication to Eric Koch, described as “a doer of nice things,” gives the record an extra layer of sincerity that fits perfectly with its overall message.
The Grimly Pleased never seem to cut corners, whether it’s the songwriting, the packaging, or the overall execution. May only last four songs, but every minute counts, leaving you wanting to flip the record over and start again.
